1. Treasure Planet
Jim’s first ride on his solo board was simply epic. You’re able to feel his rollercoaster of emotions throughout the entire ride.
The scene where Anton Ego tastes the ratatouille and is brought back to his childhood days allows the spectator to empathize with the villain. This dynamic along with the superb voice acting by Peter O’Toole puts Ratatouille among the greatest movies in animation.
3. Spirited Away
If I had to pick a scene, it’d be when Lady Eboshi of Irontown says “Now watch closely, everyone. I’m going to show you how to kill a god. A god of life and death”.
The subsequent frenzy that ensues afterwards is one of the best animated scenes ever, in my opinion.
4. Monsters Inc.
Can you imagine how fun it would be if the door chase scene was a ride?
5. Prince of Egypt
The Plagues scene from The Prince of Egypt shows just how much one is able to push the boundaries of cinematography with animation in a way live action could not. The camera angles, art shifts, colors and shapes are wildly creative.
6. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hellfire is one of the best musical animation bits Disney has ever done. In contrast to the absolute confidence of your typical villain, Frollo actually fears the evil that lies within him. That inner conflict between apprehension & sin resonates with many of us.
7. The Beauty and The Beast
If you can remember the days when our topmost priority was to snuggle in and repetitively watch one Disney movie after another, you’ll definitely understand the influence this scene has had on both our past and present.
‘A Girl Worth Fighting For’ is a powerful scene, but the transition afterwards to a village completely ransacked and destroyed by the Huns adds to the profoundness of it all.
9. Lion King
The opening scene is absolutely iconic at this point.
10. Wall E
The space dance scene is oh so cute!
11. Toy Story
The scene where Buzz finds out he’s a toy is a journey that’s quite relatable to the realization, disappointment, heartbreak and acceptance that people go through consistently. The music really accentuates the turmoil that Buzz is going through. The scene gets me right in the feels.
