In 2016, twelve-time Olympic medalist and phenom Ryan Lochte receive a 10 month suspension from both the International and US Olympic Committee for falsely claiming he was robbed at gunpoint at a Rio gas station.
To top it off, he received a 14 month suspension in 2018 for an illegal IV infusion, after which he admitted he had a serious addiction to alcohol.
Within an amazingly short period of time, Ryan’s whole career became an empty pool void of success, reputation & character. Giant sponsors such as Speedo and Ralph Lauren had completely dropped him.
Ryan later checked into rehab to get his life back in order, and expressed his downfall as the beginning of something much more positive:
“I don’t have any regrets, because if that didn’t happen then I don’t know where I’d be, like I probably wouldn’t be married and I probably wouldn’t have kids.
So I mean it was a way of someone saying, ‘Like, you need to slow down, and you need to get your life in hand.”
Ryan Lochte, age 36, is currently training for the Tokyo Olympics as one of the oldest swimmers to compete in the games. We wish him the best in his future endeavors and the upcoming Olympic Games.
