Roommates, things got a bit heated following closing arguments in the courtroom today over the course of DAY 16 of the Derek Chauvin murder trial. When Judge Cahill denied the defense’s request to declare a mistrial due to recent comments from Rep. Maxine Waters, he openly took her to task for suggesting that protestors take further action if Derek Chauvin is acquitted.
However, Judge Cahill made it very clear that he was not happy with her and stated that he “hoped elected officials would stop talking about the case.” He further chastised Rep. Waters by calling her comments “abhorrent” and “disrespectful.” The comments he’s referring to occurred over the weekend when Maxine Waters said that if Derek Chauvin is found not guilty, protesters should “stay on the street” and “get more confrontational.”
